  • Québec: New Green Retrofit Tax Credit

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    Novemebr 1, 2013

Québec: New Green Retrofit Tax Credit topped at $10,000

Quebec Government announced on October 7, 2013 the establishment of a 20 % green income tax credit for the replacement of fossil fuel heating systems with renewable energy systems such as geothermal heat pumps. The maximum tax credit is set at $10,000. For example, a $25,000 geothermal heat pump system could qualify for a $5,000 income tax credit.

The program requires the geothermal heat pump installation to be performed by a CGC qualified firm and the system to be certified by the Canadien GeoExchange Coalition (CGC). The tax credit will be in place for a period of one year, starting October 7, 2013.

In December 2012, the Quebec Government increased the financial assistance offered through its Rénoclimat program. For the replacement of residential heating systems using heating oil or propane, the financial assistance was increased to $5,365. For the replacement of electric baseboards or electric furnaces, the financial assistance was increased to $2,115. The normative framework of the Rénoclimat program is scheduled to end on December 18, 2015. Also, ground source heat pump installations must be CGC certified to receive the Rénoclimat grants.

The same geothermal heat pump installation qualifies for both the Rénoclimat grants and for the new green income tax credit.

  • GeoSmart’s New Multi Loop and Pump Handler Fast & Efficient

GeoSmart’s New Multi Loop and Pump Handler Fast & Efficient

GeoSmart introduces state-of-the-art compact multi-loop feeder and pump puller to North American drilling industry at CanWell conference in Hamilton, ON.
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    May 23, 2012

Cambridge, ON – GeoSmart Energy is elevating the Canadian geothermal drilling industry to a new level of efficiency with its recent acquisition of a new time-saving multi loop and pump handler designed specifically for geothermal drilling applications, but with additional applications for the water well industries. Compact and powerful, the GeoSmart Push’N Pull simplifies the installation of geothermal pipes in vertical drill applications, saving time, money and manual labour.

GeoSmart’s New Multi Loop and Pump Handler Fast & Efficient0401_lorez

“GeoSmart is proud to bring this innovative new drilling equipment to Canada where it’s destined to have a profound impact on geothermal drilling installations across North America,” says Stan Marco, President and CEO, GeoSmart Energy and GeoSmart Drilling Services. “Geothermal drillers will appreciate its ‘push’ factor for inserting pipe while water well drillers will love its ‘pull’ factor for extracting pumps from the ground.”

Manufactured in the United Kingdom, the Push’N Pull virtually eliminates the need for three-man teams during the drilling and installation of 1¼” geothermal pipes. It simplifies the process by generating the power of four men and allowing for the simultaneous installation of the pipe and
grout tremie line at the same time.

“What was previously taking us two hours to do, we can now do in as little as a half hour and with just a two-man crew,” says Paul Catton, drilling manager with GeoSmart Drilling Services. “It’s not only cost-effective, but easy to use, making the installation of geothermal pipe a much more efficient process.”

The Push’ N Pull, multi loop and pump handler will safely clamp into the breakout table in most existing drill rigs in a matter of minutes and runs off the rig’s existing hydraulics making it easy to operate. Weighing just 80 kilograms, the powerful multi loop and pump handler will both push and pull so that pipe can easily be extracted from the hole in the event of a blockage.

“The installation of 1¼” pipe during vertical drills on residential properties is considered best practice in terms of geothermal pump efficiency but can be challenging to do given the size and weight of the pipe and depth of the hole,” says Marco. “This piece of equipment supports best practice by eliminating the manual labour power previously required to support the installation of larger geothermal pipes.”

GeoSmart Drilling Services is the North American distributor for the GeoSmart Push’N Pull.

  • GeoSmart Drill Rig Makes Its Mark at Canwell 2010 Symposium in Manitoba

GeoSmart Drill Rig Makes Its Mark at Canwell 2010 Symposium in Manitoba

    May 30, 2010

GeoSmart Energy was front and centre at the Canwell 2010 Symposium hosted by the Manitoba Water Well Association and the Manitoba Geothermal Energy Alliance (MGEA) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, May 26-29, 2010.

Our 40’ x 60’ booth was the perfect venue for showcasing our extensive line of heating and cooling solutions, our indoor air quality products and our industry-leading PE100 polyethylene pipe. But what stole the show was GeoSmart’s new custom-designed geothermal drill rig.

The compact DeltaBase 95GT drill rig was built by manufacturer Boart Longyear leveraging GeoSmart expertise and features high efficiency hydraulics and dual rotary capability. A radio remote provides even greater flexibility in tight spaces and safely positions the operator away from the drill hole.

The drill rig generated considerable ‘buzz’ at the show, performing at the top of its class alongside other geothermal drill rigs during an outdoor drilling and geothermal demonstration in downtown Winnipeg. While the demonstration wasn’t a competition, our compact rig managed to surpass the drilling depth of other rigs by 47 feet and attracted the largest audience. We were pleased to field numerous inquiries about our attractive drill rig throughout the four-day symposium.

The conference, trade show and demonstrations is Canada’s premier groundwater symposium attracting professionals in the groundwater industry from Canada and abroad. Keynote speakers throughout the four days included The Honourable Christine Melnick, Minister of Water Stewardship, The Honourable Stephen Fletcher, Minister of State and former Manitoba Premier and Governor General of Canada, The Right Honourable Edward Schreyer.

It was a great opportunity to network with manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and scientists and to showcase why GeoSmart Energy has quickly become one of North America’s largest purveyors of geothermal technology and training.

  • GeoSmart Energy Partners with Innovative Air Solutions to Offer Solar Electric Renewable Energy Products

GeoSmart’s Solar Harmony Renewable Energy Systems

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    April 29, 2010

Cambridge, ON – GeoSmart Energy, the most experienced and respected name in geothermal, is further diversifying its renewable energy product line to include solar energy options thanks to a formal partnership with green energy solutions provider Innovative Air Solutions Inc. The agreement between the two Canadian companies will soon give homeowners in Ontario, and ultimately across Canada, access to the latest solar technology available on the market today.

“GeoSmart Energy has earned a reputation for offering consumer-oriented products that are cost-effective, energy efficient and environmentally friendly,” says Chad Brezynskie, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, GeoSmart Energy. “Aligned with our company’s strategic business plan, this partnership with Innovative Air Solutions further solidifies our commitment to deliver innovative product offerings while expanding renewable energy options for residential projects.”

Innovative Air Solutions will private label GeoSmart’s Solar Harmony product line that will be offered to GeoSmart’s extensive network of 300+ dealers across Canada to reach the residential market. GeoSmart’s will also utilize its state-of-the-art training academy to provide its dealers, interested homeowners and industry stakeholders with leading training and hands on knowledge sharing.

“This is a win-win situation for both companies,” says Geoffrey Smith, CEO, Innovative Air Solutions, whose company recently acquired a 10,000 square foot facility just up the road from GeoSmart’s corporate head office and distribution facility in Cambridge. “GeoSmart Energy’s growing dealer network, training acumen and considerable experience in renewable energy make them an ideal partner to help get our solar energy products to market while also meeting their desire to offer homeowners more diversified green energy solutions.”

Solar energy converts sunlight to electricity using photovoltaic (PV) solar cells and can be used to generate heat, electricity, lighting and mechanical power.

Innovative Air Solutions’ solar power system consists of thin film PV solar panels and an inverter. Unlike conventional solar power systems, the attractive GeoSmart Solar Harmony Thin Film panels flush mount to the roof, maximize available space, and continue to generate solar energy, even in partially shaded conditions, thanks to their cutting edge massive parallel configuration. Given their capacity to capture indirect sunlight, the system’s thin film solar panels offer the latest in solar technology, generating a 10-20% higher energy yield than the more traditional mono-crystalline panels. The roof becomes a virtual power plant, harvesting energy from the sun. Leveraging extra low voltage (ELV) inverter technology, the GeoSmart Solar Harmony Inverter boosts performance and sets a new benchmark for system safety. It is among the few inverters available today that can withstand temperatures as low as -40C. Your solar inverters will need to be changed, so you must find a solar inverter supplier that stocks the inverter that you need for your energy supply.

“The innovative massive parallel design of our Solar Harmony power system is not too unlike the parallel underground geothermal loop design used with our geothermal installations. It’s an approach that works effectively in both applications,” says Brezynskie. “This is a system that has tremendous potential for a homeowner’s return on investment.”

Under Ontario’s microFIT (Feed-In Tariff) program, homeowners are paid a guaranteed price ($0.802) for all the electricity their renewable electricity generation project (10 kilowatts or less) produces over a 20-year period.

Beattie Family Farm owner Ken Beattie has already come to appreciate the benefits of solar energy at his 2,500 acre farm in Alliston where his family has been harvesting potatoes for five generations. “We have always been respectful of the environment and our equipment and that respect has yielded a strong harvest,” notes Ken. “The solar PV equipment selected by GeoSmart Energy is the same equipment we depend on for the strongest solar harvest and the highest returns with little or no maintenance of our 20 year microFIT contract.”

GeoSmart Energy dealer Jason Grieb, whose company Advanced Geo-Thermal Systems Inc. installed the solar system at the Beattie Family Farm notes that Ontario’s feed-in tariff program makes this province an ideal launching pad for the GeoSmart/Innovative Air Solutions solar partnership. “There’s no better time for GeoSmart dealers in Ontario to expand their product offerings to include solar energy options than now,” says Jason. “It’s a great opportunity to grow your business while meeting consumer demand for green energy alternatives.”

GeoSmart’s Solar Harmony and Renewable Power Systems beautifully dovetails with the company’s longstanding belief that it’s not just selling a product, but rather a ‘system’ supported by a customer first mentality, a comprehensive education and training program, a savvy and knowledgeable network of specialists and a highly trained team of installers. Reflecting the same approach it has taken with its line of geothermal products, everything the homeowner needs to generate solar power is offered in one complete package.

“We’re delighted to be the first to bring this leading edge solar product line to market backed by a team of well-educated and knowledgeable dealers and installers,” says Brezynskie.
